About

We firmly believe that God loves everyone in their uniqueness.

We are an inclusive church where all are welcome and included - whatever age, ethnic background, sexual orientation, gender identity, ability/disability, neurotypical/neurodiverse. Whether you are established in your faith, unsure or have questions, you are welcome at Leabrook (we're still trying to work things out as well!).

We are registered for same-sex marriages and actively looking for ways to be more inclusive in our building access and approach to worship.

Leabrook’s usual worship time is 11am each Sunday and our services are live streamed. We enjoy worship in a relaxed, informal atmosphere and the layout of our worship area reflects this. When we meet for worship, we meet as a family. We also meet together to worship via Zoom every other Tuesday evening. We have a Wednesday Coffee and Crafters Morning at 10am to 1pm, which is also a Warm Hub. This includes carpet bowls, table games, textile crafts and a book club – and is also a place to meet people, make friends, feel less isolated and keep warm during these difficult times.  We extend a warm welcome to anyone who would like to join us or would like to find out more!

The Methodist fellowship has worshipped in the local area since 1842. The original Church building was built in 1848 and demolished in 1937. We worship in what was originally the Sunday School built in 1902. The church hall was built in 1968. The premises were refurbished and reopened after a burst water main caused major damage in April 2018.

We have, with the support of the Circuit and local community leaders and businesses, provided support and accommodation for Ukrainians fleeing the atrocities that are being inflicted upon their homeland at this time. This has led to us establishing a connection with the Protopresbyter of The Ukrainian Orthodox Church in the UK, in order to best serve their spiritual needs. We have built up a support network for local Ukrainian families, including having social events at the church.

In November 2024 our church building was once again devastated by another burst water main, with millions of gallons of water putting our church and the surrounding area under almost 5ft of water. Despite the shock and pain, on the day after the flood our church family met for online worship and decided we would rebuild and come back stronger – this would be a resurrection story of our own! We worshipped and ensured our midweek groups continued by meeting in neighbouring churches, keeping our family together while Leabrook was rebuilt. After a lot of hard work, we reopened in July 2025, with a new and improved church, equipped for us to continue worshipping and working in our community for decades to come!

We have a rich history of engaging with the local community, with an archive detailing past Sunday School events and Pantomime performances etc., but we look to the future with new challenges and opportunities with a desire to serve the neighbourhood and beyond, telling of Jesus and his love for all.

We are a welcoming, friendly, forward-looking, and inclusive community church. We want God’s love to be known to everyone. We look forward to seeing you – ALL are welcome at Leabrook!

Resources

We have a keyboard and keyboard player available most Sundays. On the Sundays where our keyboard player is not available, we use a laptop to play music, hymns and worship songs. A projector and screen are also available. We use Hymns & Psalms or Singing the Faith, but other music, videos and different visuals can be used via the laptop. Wi-Fi, utilising a fast broadband connection, is available throughout the building.
