It's been a busy couple of months for our friends at Lea Brook...
Throughout November and December and on into January, February and March our Coffee Morning (Wednesdays 10am-1pm) has incorporated a ‘Warm Space’, one of 60 across Sandwell. We were given a grant from SCVO, promoted and supported by local Neighbourhood workers. This ends at the end of March.
On December 19th 2022 we helped our Ukrainian guests from across Sandwell to celebrate St Nicholas’ Day, where traditionally the children in Ukraine receive gifts from St Nicholas. It was a moving event as the Presbyter from the Coventry Ukrainian Orthodox Church chanted a litany for St Nicholas’ Day with responses from a small ‘choir’, all in Ukrainian.
On January 13th, we hosted a Wednesbury and Tipton Church Leader’s Brunch organised by Sandwell Churches’ Link. We met some lovely people from other churches keen to work across the two towns and hopefully we will be worshipping together when there’s a 5th Sunday in the month… that’s the initial plan, anyway.
On Sunday 15th January we held our first service in the Church Hall to try to cut down on our energy bills. We’ll be doing this until at least the end of February. So Preachers… come round the back!
Somehow, we missed Harvest in 2022, so we had an ongoing food collection for the Breaking Bread foodbank in Wednesbury from October until December. The foodbank were amazed by the amount of food collected and donated when Lynne and Malcolm delivered the goods in early January.
